Steel CNC machining

Steel and stainless steel CNC machining for durable parts

Steel and stainless steel parts need a stable setup, sharp tools and realistic planning around strength, heat, tool wear and finish.

When steel is the right CNC choice

Steel is selected when a part needs strength, stiffness, wear resistance or durability. Stainless steel adds corrosion resistance but can be more demanding to machine. In both cases, the process has to respect heat and tool wear more than it would with aluminium.

MonteMachining handles steel and stainless CNC milled parts for prototypes, replacement components, fixtures, brackets, adapters and batch work where dimensional control matters.

Machining strategy matters

The cost and reliability of steel machining are heavily affected by feature depth, sharp internal corners, tool access, tolerance callouts and material grade. A small design change can sometimes reduce cycle time or tool risk without changing how the part functions.

Before quoting, we review the drawing for features that can create chatter, heat, tool deflection or measurement difficulty. That review helps protect both lead time and final quality.

Capabilities

What this page covers

01

Strength-focused parts

Machined details where load, wear or long service life matter more than minimum weight.

02

Stainless applications

Corrosion-resistant components where material choice and finish requirements need to be clear.

03

Controlled cutting

Feeds, speeds, coolant and tool choice are selected around material behavior and tolerance.

Questions

Common questions

Can you machine stainless steel?
Yes. Stainless steel can be machined when grade, tolerances and finish expectations are clear.
Is steel more expensive to machine than aluminium?
Often yes, because cutting forces, tool wear and cycle times are usually higher.
Can you advise on tolerances for steel parts?
Yes. If a tolerance is costly or risky, we can discuss whether it is functionally necessary before production.
